Park Drentheland

The butterfly garden in Havelte is open every day (Mon–Sun) from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

When is the best time to visit the butterfly garden?

  • The best time to visit is between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on a sunny day. Butterflies are most active when the sun is shining and it’s nice and warm.
  • During the winter months and on dark, rainy days, the butterflies will be less active and will mostly sit on or under leaves or against the windows.

Don’t come too late—most butterflies are most active in the early morning. If you want to see butterflies emerge from their chrysalises, it’s also best to come in the early morning. Butterflies need time to dry their wings before they can fly. This is best done in the sun, so during the day. Butterflies also visit flowers most frequently in the morning and early afternoon.

The “Papiliorama” Butterfly Paradise is open to the public every day of the year, including during the winter months(except January 1).

You don’t need to make a reservation for the butterfly garden.

P.S. Across from the Butterfly Garden is Brasserie OER, where you can enjoy delicious food and drinks, and where children can play.
The surrounding area is also beautiful for taking lovely walks.
